Do you have a dog?
Did your parents or grandparents have a dog?
Here's why I ask. The next time you're food shopping, take a moment and swing by the "pets" section. I have no doubt that you will see a wide variety of dog food; from soft to crunchy, basic to scientifically engineered food. Go online and you will see tools to compare dog foods and their properties.
Here's a short list off the top of my head

Bear in mind that this is just SOME of the popular brands out there. Also, consider that each brand has variants like Original, Puppy, Mature, Weight Control, etc.
SO, What the heck did we do for pets BEFORE the dog food industry existed? Were their no dogs? Of Course their were!!! But they just ate things in the woods, scraps and left overs, much like the billions of non-domesticated animals that inhabit our woods today.
But were they healthy? Sure they were. In fact, dogs were originally bred and domesticated to do "work", so they were probably even HEALTHIER before we started feeding them all this shelved crap.
The funniest thing is that the latest "in" trends are to feed your pet dog food that is free from chicken or poultry by-product meals, corn gluten and artificial preservatives and instead, feed them another type of shelved dry food from a bag that's made with "Real Meat". What?????
Here's my Point in all this.
Give someone the chance to sell you something and they will. With the advent of newspapers, radio, television, and now the Internet, sophisticated commercial marketing tactics have been used to psychologically convince us what's good for us. This has happened not only with dog food, but also with "bottled" water, medicine, health and beauty aids, and especially with our Federal Government.
Over time, those with special interest ($$) have worked with the Federal government to convince us that we NEED the Federal Government to provide us with services that we just don't need, at a cost that it can't afford to bear. These are the same services that families, communities and states used to provide for themselves
This section provides a complete breakdown of bloated Federal Government Agencies and Services we can all do without.
