The modern "Progressive" movement mystifies me, and here's why:

Our country has progressed amazingly through our governing document, the U.S. Amended Constitution. By following the "rules of this document, we have started up a democratic nation governed By The People, abolished slavery, given women and college student the right to vote, and, and overall, established the framework of freedom. So, what's so "Progressive" about moving away from Freedom and core American Values?

You see, "Progressivism" is a political attitude that advocates increased government involvement to force changes or reforms. Basically, "Progressives" are experts at eroding personal responsibilities and generating costs for taxpayers, as they loudly advocate the need for more and more government laws and intervention into our personal lives. Whether people realize it or not, this so-called Progressive mindset generally leads to Socialism.

Progressivism made great strides under American presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Lyndon Baines Johnson , or as I refer to them, the "Forefathers of American Debt". In fact, the Progressive Party was founded in 1912 by President Theodore Roosevelt himself. It's scary to think that this progressive party was the most successful third party in modern American history, but eventually the original movement died when it's idealistic views couldn't be translated into reality. Thankfully, the Progressive Party founded in 1924 and the Progressive Party founded in 1948 were less successful than the 1912 version, but their idealistic views still live on today.

Today, most progressive politicians in the United States associate with the Democratic Party or the Green Party US. Some of the more notable progressive members of the U.S.Congress have included Barack Obama (big surprise there ;-), Dennis Kucinich, Barney Frank, Bernie Sanders, Sherrod Brown, Maxine Waters, John Lewis, and Paul Wellstone.

So, what doesn't being "Progressive" work? Well one reason is that the progressive approach borderlines Socialism, which is the complete opposite of traditional American Freedom. Another reason is that Progressives like to believe that the U.S. Ammended Contituion doesn't exist. This is a shame because, if they really wanted to legitamately change the culture of the United States, they would just have to rally the public to Ammend the Constitiuion. Instead, they use emotionally-driven arguments to fool voters and then abuse the shady legislative process to destroy our liberties and the spirit of America.

But the core reason why Progressivism comes and goes in spurts, is that Progressives don't focus on, or undestand the long term impacts of their actions. This makes the Progressivism very Idealisitic.

Idealist (i·de·al·ist) - One whose conduct is influenced by ideals that often conflict with practical considerations.

As civilized humans, we come up with some great well-intentioned ideas. For instance, wouldn't it be great if:

  • The whole world was free and peaceful?
  • Every animal died of old age?
  • If we could fit everyone on Earth in America who wanted to come?
  • Sound decisions could always be made on one's changing emotions?
  • No one ever infringed on another person's natural rights to life liberty and pursuit of happiness across the planet?
  • You never had to "lose" at anything, because you could change the rules anytime you want?
  • You could profit without any degree of Risk?
  • Nothing had to give it's life so humans could live?
  • You actually didn't have to work after you retire?
  • You could make anyone who offends, annoys or harasses you just disappear?
  • Children never got in trouble, went hungry, or deserved "F's" on report cards??
  • There were no such thing as the "Boogy Man" or the "Big, Bad Wolf"?

These are all great ideas and there is nothing wrong with them, so long as you don't have the mental capacity to realize that none of these are EVER going to happen. As much as it doesn't "Feel good" to admit, these are NOT practical, attainable goals. Simple logic in the private business sector says that if you fail to plan practical, attainable goals, your are really just planning to fail..

So long as humans walk the earth with their natural instincts of greed, competition, ego and self-preservation, idealist goals can simply NEVER be achieved.
